It’s been a while since we posted anything from the Irish
Room but, I am pleased to say that most of the clean up work has been completed
– just a few bits and bobs left to sort through and organize.
It had been a few weeks since I worked at the library (Irish
Room) so I hadn’t realized just how comfortable our newest resident had
become. Leo, our library lion has been
having a great time going through al the books and magazines we have in the
library while showing us more and more of his rather quirky personality. I worked the day before Valentine’s Day and,
when I arrived I was greeted by this:
It appears that, even though the library shelves were still in the process of being reorganized, Leo found the time to drag out a few books he thought might be perfect for a Valentine's Day read: two novels by Norah Roberts with a focus on love and relationships, two books of poetry and a compilation of 4 Irish stories about love and enchantment. Leo was really rocking the heart headband he was wearing. He really does get excited, doesn't he??
Well, with Leo looking on, I continued the reorganization of the library. Thankfully all the books are now re-shelved and placed in well-signed groupings by genre so you no longer have to search through all the books if you are mainly interested in one specific subject area.
On the non-fiction side of the room we have separate areas for biographies, Irish History General, Irish History North America, etc. Doesn't that make it much easier to find something?
On the fiction side of the room we have also arranged the books by genre such as popular authors, contemporary fiction, historic fiction, poetry and plays, short stories and essays, etc.
We hope you will pop in on a Thursday or Saturday between 10 am and 2 pm to check out the new look and check out a book or two as well!
In the meantime, as clean up continued, Leo was determined to participate in any way he could. This is what I found last month when I arrived for work on March 16th:
And then when I came in the following week:
Okay - I have to admit - he got an "Awwww" out of me on that one. He really does look adorable as a bunny, doesn't he?
So this past week I wasn't sure what I would find but yes, he had been busy again. Apparently he wanted everyone to know that the month of April is actually National Poetry Month - and he provided us with two examples out of the many poetry books we have to choose from:
He is recommending W. B Yeat's 'Everyman's Poetry' as well as a book by three New Brunswick poets:
'Feathers and Shells' by Thelma Ann Brennan, Elizabeth Lockwood and Patricia Margaret Brennan. Even though April is rapidly coming to a close, there is no reason not to drop in and check out our poetry collection for yourself. Plus, it would make Leo really happy!
And now we are back to today actually being 'World Book Day. Although the United Kingdom chose to vary from the date the rest of the world celebrated World Book Day, apparently, for the rest of us, April 23rd was chosen as the date many years ago because of the unusual number of authors who happened to pass away on that date over the years. Hmm - perhaps we can get Leo to look into this further because it does sound interesting.
So, in closing, Bruce, Susan and I, your friendly librarians, and Leo your cute but frenetic library lion, hope to see you drop in and check out all the great Irish reading opportunities that can be found at the Irish Room. Until then - enjoy the spring weather as we move swiftly along!
